4 Tips to Actually Finish a Story

Story Telling 0 comments

I’m a writer. But what about all the stories laying around that I’ve never finished? Let’s talk about how to actually finish a story.

  1. Avoid writer’s block and stay interested in your story.

I spilled my best secrets on loving your story and avoiding writer’s block here.  Be sure not to miss that. 😉

  1. Write every day.

To finish your story, you have to keep writing. You have to get past the beginning. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part, so get past that and you’ll be rolling. Besides, being consistent is important in any task that you tackle.

  1. Try some word sprints.

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but word sprints are a great way to crank out the words in a short amount of time. Try setting your timer for 20 minutes at a time and take 5 minute breaks for stretching and snacks. While the timer is on, you just keep writing. Don’t worry about finding the perfect word or making sure everything jibes exactly how you want it to. There will be plenty of time for editing later. 😉

  1. Stay in the zone.

Even when you’re not on a timer, it’s important to stay in the zone. Turn your phone on airplane mode or even turn it off to avoid distractions. I know it’s tempting to scroll through Instagram, or get lost in Pinterest finding iced coffee recipes. So stay away from that temptation.

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you use these tips to finish a story! I love you all and hope you have a great week!
