If you’re like me, you’ve seen all those beautiful bible journaling designs on Pinterest, but how do you come up with a completely original design with your own brain? I’ve asked this question so many times, so after endlessly scrolling through Pinterest, I came up with a solution to share with y’all.
First of all, you don’t even need a journaling bible. So grab a notebook and a cup of your favorite drink, and let’s dig in! Here are the steps I follow:
Step 1: Choose words that speak to you.
Choose a verse, song lyrics, or even a quote, that you want to keep and cherish forever. What pops out to you when you’re reading your Bible or listening to a song? Journal it! For example, I chose “With Jesus I’m free as a bird.”
Step 2: Choose a corresponding visual.
You know that verse or little blurb you chose? What do you think of when you hear it? Any doodles that would go with it? Go ahead and draw it. (With a pencil of course. Once you have it the way you want it, you can outline it in pen.) For mine, I chose a bird. If you’re anything like me and can’t freehand worth anything, find something cute on Pinterest and copy it down. If that doesn’t work for you, feel free to print something out and trace it.
Step 3: Form your words around the visual.
Mix and match different fonts around your visual to make a super fun and attractive design, and you’re almost done! If you’re not a super talented calligrapher, that’s okay. I’m not either. You can use alpha stickers or even print off the words you need and cut them out. Click here for some examples.
Step 4: Add Color!
This may just be the best part. My favorite way to add color is through watercolors, but you can definitely use Crayola Twistables, or whatever works best for you.
Thank you so much for reading! Happy bible journaling!
