I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Psalm 139:14 NKJV

Summer is my favorite season. The freedom, BBQ’s, and the trips make it worthwhile. I also celebrate my birthday at the end of July, which is something I always look forward to. My family usually takes a vacation during the summer as well. One particular summer, I traveled 9 hours to visit other family members in North Carolina. It is still one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever taken.

During the trip, I had a biking accident and the same scar from 14 years ago is still on my right leg. I love telling the story behind my scar; it’s part of who I am. We all have blemishes and imperfections that are a part of our life’s story. And even with all of our flaws, we are still fearfully and wonderfully made.

God created us in His image and He sees us as His own. God loves us more than anyone else ever could. So, even when we ourselves or others view us negatively, God still sees us as special and cherished. Even with all of our flaws and imperfections, we are still beautiful and exceptional in His sight. We are His specially crafted masterpieces.

Your worth does not decrease when others are unable to see it. Your value does not lessen when you feel insecure. You aren’t any less amazing if someone fails to see your beauty. Your worth is rooted in Christ. He gave His perfect life in place of your imperfect life when He died for you. I believe it is beneficial to affirm who you are in Christ, so that you will see yourself the way He does.

Instead of allowing others to determine your worth, or even being blinded by your own insecurities or lack of understanding who you are, embrace the standard God has already set for you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You were created to carry out a unique purpose. You are chosen, you are forgiven, and you are loved by the One who matters most.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

-Ephesians 3:20 NLT
