2 Timothy 1:6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,
9 who saved us and called us to[a] a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,[b]
I absolutely LOVE this passage. First of all, it says to “fan into flame the gift of God.” Basically Paul is telling us that God has given us all a gift, a calling, and that we shouldn’t waste it. We should embrace it and use it to the best of our ability.
Then he says that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” Yes, embracing our gifts can be tough. I’m terrified of singing or playing the piano in front of people. But God didn’t give us our gifts to hide them.
Notice verse 8. God has blessed us all with beautiful gifts. And just as we are not ashamed of those gifts, we shouldn’t be ashamed of the marvelous creator that gave us those gifts. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about God, because we’re afraid people will think we’re crazy. But remember, God gave us a spirit of power and self control, not of fear.
God saved us, and gave us a holy calling. But he didn’t give us talents to glorify ourselves; to just show off. He gave us those gifts for his own purpose, and because of his own grace.
So this week, when you’re faced with some tough stuff, remember God gave us a spirit of power, love, and self control. We have the right to be unafraid of the future, because God is with us. So embrace your God-given abilities and use them to brighten up the world around you.
Love y’all and hope you have a great week!! 😜Lydia
